JOIST Innovation Park is excited to announce its new strategic partnership as a shareholder of DuckyCode P.C., a pioneering educational technology company that is redefining the way students of all ages learn programming. As a spin-off of the Aristotle University of Thessaloniki, DuckyCode aims to make programming fun, accessible and meaningful for everyone.
The company has developed “DuckyCode”, an advanced educational programming tool that allows children to learn through a hands-on and interactive experience. It was founded by Theodosios Sapounidis, Ioannis Kedros, and Pavlos Mantziaris, while the creation and curation of the educational material was done by Ioannis Davaros, Children Program Coordinator of JOIST, who is also the main person in charge of the DuckyCode trainings within the framework of the Innovation Park. This move seals a dynamic collaboration that started about two years ago, with JOIST being a key factor in the growth and development of DuckyCode in Greece and abroad.
The collaboration to date: JOIST’s crucial support for the development of DuckyCode
Since 2022, JOIST Innovation Park has played a vital role in promoting and developing DuckyCode. The collaboration began with JOIST organizing the first tangible programming workshop, allowing children to engage with programming in a fun and interactive way. JOIST then contributed significantly to integrating DuckyCode into the Centre for Creative Activities for Children (K.D.A.P.) in the Municipality of Larissa, creating the first educational package for students in grades 1-6.
Educational Integration and New Programs
In 2023, DuckyCode was fully integrated into JOIST’s educational programs for children aged 5-8. The learning journey started with the Inspire Lab, where children explored technological innovation through JOIST’s exhibition. Inspired by the great achievements of technology and creativity, they then moved on to the Create Lab, where they had the opportunity to apply their newfound knowledge and ideas by practically engaging with programming through DuckyCode.
That same year, JOIST launched a 60-hour annual educational program on tangible programming, further embedding DuckyCode into its educational activities.
Expanding DuckyCode’s Reach
With JOIST’s continued support, DuckyCode has inspired thousands of children and families. In March 2023, DuckyCode participated in the “Technology Month” at Mediterranean Cosmos Mall in Thessaloniki, where over 3,000 children were introduced to the exciting world of programming.
During June and July of 2024, DuckyCode continued to expand its presence by participating in Kiddom at Allou Fun Park, the Athens Science Festival, and the Science Festival by Mikel in Larissa, reaching even more children and parents with its innovative programming capabilities.
Ongoing Activities and New Engagements
The success of DuckyCode continues with new activities. On 27 September, DuckyCode will participate in the Researcher’s Night in Larissa and on 5-6 October in the 6th KIDOT Festival in the open-air area of TIF-HELEXPO, offering participants the opportunity to get to know its potential. At the same time, through Erasmus+, DuckyCode has been presented to dozens of schools, enriching the educational experience of programming for hundreds of students.
A Comprehensive Robotics Solution for All Educational Levels
DuckyCode is an advanced educational tool suitable for students of all ages. With features such as IoT integration, sensors, and programming in languages like Python, DuckyCode offers a flexible solution that adapts and evolves according to the student’s needs and skill level.
With the continuous support of JOIST Innovation Park, DuckyCode continues to evolve and significantly contribute to children’s programming education. This collaboration opens new paths for technological education, providing children with the tools and knowledge they need to develop their programming skills.
