DESCRIPTION

We welcome adult explorers to an activity that combines the city’s rich history with advanced technologies, offering a unique opportunity for learning, innovation and creative expression.

Hack the Map workshop aims to teach participants how to use new technologies and tell a story in their own way. They will enter data they will collect in an Augmented Reality (AR) environment to create a unique map of the centre of Larissa based on their own open and innovative vision.

Hack the Map in Larissa is implemented in two parts:

Part One – Exploration:

After the participants receive the map of the route, they will walk together through the historical centre of Larissa. Starting from the Pinios Bridge, we will follow a fascinating route with stops such as the Old Clock, Alexandros Megaro, the National Bank, and many other historical sites of the city. The aim is to hack the route and create a multimedia world. During the exploration, they will learn about the history and culture of the city, take photos and make notes of interesting details and hidden treasures they come across.

Part Two – Creation:

Then, participants will enter JOIST’s Future Learning Lab and using new technologies and software, they will collaborate to create a unique map of the city based on their observations and the data they recorded. They will learn how to use software programs to convert the data they have collected into 3D objects and import them into an AR environment to create their map. Participants will be encouraged to add their own personal touch and creativity to the map, as well as collaborate with others to come up with new ideas.

The programme was designed and is being implemented by Mr. Athanasio Katsougianni, designer, programmer and educator. His design practice focuses on the connection between digital and analogue interactions in our everyday life. Creates websites, design tools and experiences that disrupt user habits. Explores the limits of new technologies and their unique functions that will give life to the static world around us.

Hack the Map is supported by the team Photothiki of Larissa, which will voluntarily conduct the tour and offer free of charge rich photographic material from historical places of Larissa.
