DESCRIPTION

Addressing modern urban challenges is a prerequisite for sustainable development and improving the living conditions of those living in cities. The flourishing of vibrant entrepreneurial ecosystems, through which innovative business solutions can emerge, can contribute to this effort. The United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (UN-Sustainable Development Goals) can form the basis for the development of vibrant business ecosystems in urban environments.

In this direction, the Institute for Entrepreneurship Development- iED announces the launch of the “Sustainable Development Goals-SDG Urban Hub”, which will be housed in the JOIST Innovation Park. The SDG Urban Hub will be a hub where the local community and innovative businesses will interact to address urban challenges and problems, operating under the transnational U-SOLVE project. At the same time, it will be a support space with business development services and access to funding for the thirty-five selected business ideas. Five of these ideas will receive financial support of up €10,000 for their implementation.

The ultimate goal of the SDG Urban Hub is to contribute to the creation of a new model of urban development, with innovative entrepreneurship at its core, focusing on addressing urban challenges and creating jobs in dynamic sectors such as the circular economy.

Aiming to provide detailed information to stakeholders on the development, support and financing of innovative business ideas that provide solutions to modern urban challenges, the Institute of Entrepreneurship Development is organizing an open information day U-SOLVE Urban Hub, on Tuesday 12 July 2022, 6:30 to 8:15 p.m. at the JOIST Innovation Park amphitheatre.

The U-SOLVE Urban Hub information day is aimed at:

  • Existing businesses or individuals who have innovative business ideas to address the urban challenges facing the cities of Larissa or Trikala in a creative way. The focus will be on entrepreneurial ideas from young people aged 24-35 and women.
  • Bodies and organisations active in supporting entrepreneurship and addressing urban challenges (local authorities, civil society organisations, chambers of commerce, incubators).
  • Universities and educational institutions (IEK-KEK) that wish to offer new business perspectives to their trainees.

The event takes place in the framework of the projects “U-SOLVE: Urban Sustainable Development Solutions Valuing Entrepreneurship” and “HELIOS: Enhancing the Social Inclusion of NEETs”, funded by the ENI CBC MED 2014-2020 programme.
